December 2019 has been a month to remember for our outstanding band students. We started the month showing our unswerving support for our school and community. We participated in the local Christmas Parades of Latta, SC and Dillon, SC. We also traveled to Columbia, SC to support our beloved Dillon High School “Nasty Cats” Football Team in the South Carolina 3A State Championship Game.
In addition to these activities, both the high school and middle school band programs hosted their annual holiday concerts. For the high school, this was their second concert of the 2019-2020 concert series. For the middle school, this was their first concert of the year. This concert also served to premier the Dillon Middle 6th Grade Beginner Band, which is in its first year of existence.
We were also fortunate enough to have several students selected to participate with the Eastern District Honor Band Clinic. In order to be selected, students went through an audition process. This process required students to play several scales by memory, recite definitions for musical terms, play a prepared piece, and sight read a musical excerpt.
Our students received some very nice comments from the adjudicators. We were fortunate enough to have 19 students selected from Dillon Middle and 31 selected from Dillon High to participate in the honor band clinic. The clinic will include students from various schools in the Greater Pee Dee Region and a concert will be held February 1, 2020 on the campus of Hartsville Middle School.
