The Start of Something New

On Tuesday, December 17, 2019, the Dillon Middle School Band Department presented their annual Holiday Concert. This performance was held in the Dillon Middle School Gym. As usual, this concert featured the Dillon 7th Grade Beginner Band and the Dillon 8th Grade Concert Band. This concert also saw the premier performance for the Dillon 6th Grade Beginner Band. Director of Bands, Mr. Kevin McLellan, had the following to say about the concert.

“I’m proud of what the students have been able to accomplish so far, and their fine performance. I am extremely excited to see how the 6th grade ensemble will continue to develop as they matriculate through their 8th grade year. This being the first time ever in Dillon Middle School history to have three bands.”

The concert also saw the return of two alumni of the Dillon Middle School Band Program. Ms. Kezia Dentley, a recent graduate of Dillon High School, conducted the 7th Grade Beginner Band. Ms. Dentley is currently a music major at Bethune Cookman University in Daytona Beach Florida. She played alto saxophone while in the program at Dillon Middle and currently plays oboe at Bethune Cookman. Mr. Austin Green, a recent graduate of Claflin University with a B.A. in Music, conducted the 8th Grade Concert Band. Mr. Green played trumpet in the Dillon Middle Band Program and has aspirations to one day teach band on the secondary or collegiate level.
